TRAVERSE CITY, MI– Buoyed by the success of its popular spring promotions, the Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau has embarked on its first-ever summer program – a “Sizzling Summer Special” specifically for midweek visitors.

 

The new special, which runs from June 29 through Aug. 28, offers room rates starting at $115 per night (plus tax, based on availability) between Sunday and Thursday nights. More than 20 hotels, motels and resorts are participating in this offer, but in order to qualify for the low midweek rates guests must book their stay through the bureau’s toll-free number, 1-800-TRAVERSE. Despite recent hikes in gas prices and a sluggish national economy, lodging properties in this popular Lake Michigan resort area haven’t seen any significant drop in weekend visitor traffic this season. Butbureau President Brad Van Dommelen said the community has no intention of “resting on its laurels;” instead, it’s working to increase lodging occupancy during the middle of the week.

 

“Our slogan with this special is ‘Midweek Gets You More,’ because we’re offering some extra value to visitors who have the flexibility to travel in the midweek,” he said. “Not only can they get some great rates at many of our properties, but we’ve added a lot of valuable extras – from 25 percent restaurant discounts to deals on shopping, golf, wine, entertainment and spa services.”
