Snow Condition Reports

Snow just adds to the fun in Traverse City

Snow condition reports are updated daily, Monday through Friday, during the winter sports season.  They are available during the winter season via our toll-free Snow Conditions Hotline, 800-72-ski-TC (800-727-5482).

Traverse City is located in the middle of what is known as a snowbelt area.  That means that in addition to system snow, the area is also subject to the phenomenon known as 'lake effect' snow.  The colder Canadian air blowing down across the warmer waters of Lake Michigan causes lake effect snow.  The warmer lake water evaporates and mixes with the colder air, resulting in a fair amount of snowfall.  Lake effect snow is difficult to forecast and snowfall can vary significantly at locations just a few mile apart.   You will hear information on the actual conditions of the area's downhill slopes, cross-country trails and snowmobile trails.
